Ryan Waginger is always thinking of others.

Waginger pitched a four-hitter that included nine strikeouts as the St. Joseph Flyers belted the South Gallia Rebels 14-2 Wednesday in a five-inning mercy rule win.

“Ryan gave us a good effort. When you get nine strikeouts, that makes it easy on your defense,” Flyers coach Greg Bryant said.

Waginger also helped take some pressure off the offense as he went 3-for-4 including a home run.

Ryan Schwab provided the big bat on offense as he went 4-4 including a double. Jeremy Addis also homered as the trio was

8 for 11 at the plate.

“The top of the lineup combined for eight hits and a lot of run production,” Bryant said.

St. Joseph took a 5-0 lead in the second inning.

Jerrod Laber and Caleb Blackburn were safe on errors, Pat Gagai hit into a fielder’s choice and Chad Harvey was safe on a fielder’s choice.

Michael Basedow walked, Addis was hit by a pitch and Schwab doubled home a pair. Addis scored on a throwing error and Waginger delivered an RBI single.

The Flyers pushed the lead to 8-0 in the third inning.

Blackburn walked and Harvey and Basedow walked to load the bases. Schwab singled in two runs and Waginger drove in the third run with a hit.

St. Joe blew the game open with six runs in the fourth inning.

Laber and Blackburn singled to start the rally and an outfield error allowed a run to score. Gagai walked and Harvey put down a sacrifice bunt. Addis came to the plate and unloaded a three-run homer.

Schwab got a base hit and Waginger smacked a two-run blast and it was 14-0.
