PEDRO — It’s all about making shots.

Or, not making them.

The Rock Hill Redwomen were both hot and cold from the field Saturday as they fell 52-40 to the Wheelersburg Lady Pirates.

The Redwomen made 35 percent of their shots and connected on 12 of 16 foul shots. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as Wheelersburg pulled away late in the game.

“We played pretty well in spurts and we shot the ball well in spurts, we just couldn’t hit some shots when we needed,” Redwomen coach Matt Fulks said.

“We did a good job making them do what we wanted the first half, but they hit some shots the second half.”

Brooke Long scored 14 points and had three assists to lead the Redwomen (6-10). Mandi McKenzie scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds while Michelle Pancake had nine points and nine rebounds.

Long scored eight points in the first quarter including two from behind the arc as Rock Hill trailed just 11-10.

The Lady Pirates were up 20-18 at the half and then Brittany Meenach hit three 3-pointers in the third quarter to help open up a 37-29 lead.

McKenzie scored five points in the fourth quarter as Rock Hill cut a 12-point deficit to eight before Wheelersburg pulled away.
