Auxier, Lady Dragons take advantage of mistakes to beat Lady Vikings

AID — Too many mistakes. Too much Megan Auxier.

Fairland’s Megan Auxier pitched a two-hitter and the Lady Dragons took advantage of six errors to beat the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings 6-1 Monday.

“We made too many mistakes and Fairland hit the ball well against us,” Lady Vikings coach Jeff “Odie” Estep said. “Megan Auxier pitched a nice ball game.”

Auxier struck out 10 and walked three to get the complete-game win. Mandi Estep took the loss.

Symmes Valley took a 1-0 lead in the second inning.

Megan Coomes was hit by a pitch, Libby Ash was safe on an error and Haily Pelletier reached on an fielder’s choice as Coomes scored.

But Fairland came back to take the lead with two runs in the top of the third inning.

Mandy Clark singled to start the inning and Mackenzie Rucker singled an out later. With two outs, Auxier reached on a throwing error as both runners came home.

The Lady Dragons went up 4-1 with two runs in the fourth inning.

Ashley Graham and Danielle Jordan were safe on errors, Clark singled to load the bases and Allison Hager singled in a run. A throwing error at third base sent Jordan home.

Fairland added two insurance runs in the fifth inning.

Auxier singled and Marie Stewart and Stephanie Graham each reached on an error. Ashley Graham and Jordan followed with run-scoring single.

Fairland, 23-1, faces Unioto at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Lucasville Valley in the Division III district semifinals.

Symmes Valley, 21-4, faces Southeastern Ross at 6 p.m. Thursday at Minford in the Division IV district semifinals.
