ASHLAND, Ky. — Megan Auxier might want to fast forward to the third inning.
Auxier missed on another no-hit chance by giving up a second inning double as she fired a one-hitter Saturday to lead the Fairland Lady Dragons to a 1-0 win over Ashland Kittens.
Auxier struck out 15 and only walked two in getting the win.
“Megan pitched another great game. If she could get by the first couple of innings, I don’t know how many no-hitters she might have had this year,” Fairland coach Leroy Baise said.
“But I was happy with our defense. When they did hit it, we made the plays. Ashland had a sound team and a good pitcher. We put the ball in play quite a bit and they made some nice plays.”
Fairland scored the only run of the game in the fourth inning on a one-out triple by Kirstin Midkiff and a ground out by Marie Stewart.
Fairland, 19-1, hosts Coal Grove Monday at 5 p.m. in the Division III sectional tournament.
