PORTSMOUTH — The temperatures aren’t the only thing that has been rising lately.

The Symmes Valley Vikings have increased their offensive output including a 75-46 Southern Ohio Conference win Friday over the Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans.

Vikings coach Alvin Carpenter said the increased offense is due to another rising factor.

“Our confidence is starting to go back up,” Carpenter said. “We’re shooting the ball with confidence and looking for the open man.”

An example of looking for the open man is 6-foot-6 Michael Humphreys who had just six points but came up with a double-double as he finished with 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

“Michael didn’t have many points, but he probably had his best game of the year. They doubled him a lot and he got the ball to the open man,” Carpenter said.

Kyle Meadows led the Vikings (a6-8, 5-4) with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Matt Owens scored 21 points

Meadows scored half the Vikings points in the first quarter as they took a 20-13 lead.

Owens knocked down 11 points in the second quarter as the Vikings pulled away to a 43-22 halftime lead.

Meadows and Owens scored eight points each in the third quarter as the lead grew to 63-34.

Alex Davis scored 18 points including four 3-pointers for Notre Dame.
