COAL GROVE — The Fairview Eagles saved their gas money and walked.

Taking advantage of 12 walks, the Fairview (Ky.) beat the Coal Grove Hornets 12-1 Friday.

Coal Grove coach John Jones said his team hit the baseball well but was the victim of bad luck.

“We hit the ball hard all night, they just wouldn’t fall. We probably hit the ball harder than we have all week,” Jones said.

Fairview took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning on two walks and a two-out fly ball double.

Coal Grove cut the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the inning when Andy Smith walked and Randy Wise spanked a two-out double.

But Fairview used five walks and a base hit to score four times in the fifth inning to take a 6-1 lead.

Coal Grove, 7-10, hosted Clay Saturday and will travel to Chesapeake on Tuesday for a Division III sectional tournament game.
