Lady bank bandit indicted by grand jury

A Greenup, Ky., woman arrested for holding up an Ironton bank was indicted late last week by a Lawrence County Grand Jury.

Natalie Carter, 27, was indicted on a single count of second-degree felony robbery. The man accused of driving her getaway car, Willis C. Cochran, 44, of 6218 State Route 93, Ironton, was indicted on one count of complicity to robbery.

Carter is accused of walking into the US Bank at Third and Jones streets March 7 and demanding money. She was arrested nearly three weeks later at a house on Coryville Road. Cochran remains at large.

Also, an Ironton man accused of holding up the Rich Oil gasoline station at Third and Monroe streets in August 2005 was indicted by the grand jury.

Richard Thomas Riffe, 18, was indicted on one count of aggravated robbery. He is accused of taking a knife to hold up gas station only to find discover the cashier he robbed knew him and was able to identify him to police. Riffe was reportedly not wearing a mask during the incident.

According to information from the office of Lawrence County Prosecutor J.B. Collier Jr., the grand jury met Thursday and Friday of last week and returned 12 indictments. Two are secret indictments and are drug-related.

Others indicted were:

&t;Jeffrey Elswick, 18, 1621 S. Fourth St., Ironton, one count each of trafficking in marijuana and possession of criminal tools.

&t; Dewey D. Nance, 28, 96 Private Drive 153, South Point, one count of burglary and two counts of breaking and entering.

&t; Donald R. Malone III, 48, 111 Township Road 357, Ironton, one count each of burglary and breaking and entering.

&t; William Medley, 31, Township Road 1016, South Point, one count of receiving stolen property.

&t; Michael P. McPeek, 28, 2513 S. Fourth St., Ironton, one count of burglary.

&t; Shannon L. Lewis, 24, 503 Lane St., Coal Grove, one count of assault on a peace officer.

&t; Mark A. Miller, 33, 545 County Road 1, South Point, one count of rape. The alleged victim was a 12-year-old girl.
