PORTSMOUTH — Things were even for three innings. Nothing was equal the last four.

Tied 8-8 after three innings, the Symmes Valley Vikings scored 11 runs the rest of the way to beat the Portsmouth Clay Panthers 19-8 Tuesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

The Vikings jumped in front 5-0 in the first inning as Alex Burnett and Matt Owens each had two-run doubles while Kyle Meadows singled home a run.

Clay tied the game with two runs in the first and three in the second, but the Vikings came back to score three in the third inning.

A single by Meadows and two errors produce one runs and Derek Carpenter hit a two-run double to make it 8-5.

Clay came right back to score three runs in the bottom of the inning and tie the game once again.

But Symmes Valley took the lead for good with five runs in the fifth inning.

After two errors, Meadows had a run-scoring double. Owens got a base hit and Carpenter drove in a run with his second double. Another error scored a run.

The Vikings put the game away with six runs in the seventh inning.

Seth Saunders doubled to open the inning. Robbie Powell had an RBI double and Brice Sexton a run-scoring single.

Following an error Meadows singled in a run. Cody Bland walked and Owens had a two-run single.

Meadows was 4-for-5 as the Vikings banged out 18 hits. Owens and Sexton were 3-5 while Saunders and Carpenter were 2-5.

Sexton picked up the win with five innings of relief work.

Symmes Valley, 10-10 and 7-6 in the SOC, hosts Fairland Friday.
