CHESAPEAKE — Phil Davis likes the Chesapeake Relays track meet. He likes it even better when his team wins.

The Panthers won their own relay meet Tuesday as they posted a 22-point win in the six-team field.

“I always like this meet. You get to use a lot of kids, it’s different and it’s a lot of fun,” Davis said.

Chesapeake won five events to key the team victory.

The Panthers 4×400 relay team of Kenny Morgan, Caleb McComas, Adam Slone and Jeff Thornburg ran a 3:39 time to win. The same group won the 4×200 relay.

Thornburg joined Joe Riley, Heath Hazlett and Andrew Fraley to win the shuttle hurdles.

Tyler Edwards, Aaron Ross and Aaron Allen had a combined height of 29 feet to win the pole vault.

Joe Riley, Andrew Ittig and Eric McWhorter won the discus with combined throws of 329-9.

The Panthers were third in the high jump but Brent Ransbottom cleared 6-6.

Ironton’s boys won the shot put as John Paul Pemberton had a throw of 49-1.25. He also had a season’s best 143-8 throw in the discus.

The Lady Dragons won the discus thanks to Brittany Barbour who threw a 110-9 on her last toss. Ironton was second with Rachel Walker throwing a personal best of 110-8.

Lissa Hensley, Katie Washburn, Kayla Wileman and Walker combined to win the shuttle hurdles and the 4×100 relay.

The Rock Hill Invitational will be held at 5 p.m. Friday.
