PEDRO — Not a bad way to finish.
The Rock Hill Redmen finished Ohio Valley Conference play with an 11-2 win Thursday over the South Point Pointers.
The win enabled Rock Hill to finish 8-2 in the OVC and in sole possession of second place. South Point ended league play 5-5 and tied for third place with Fairland.
“We played pretty well all the way around. We had one mistake that gave them a run, but you can live with that,” Redmen coach Barry Litteral said.
“The kids have played hard all year.”
Josh Moore got the win as he allowed only four hits and one earned run. He struck out eight and walked three.
“Josh threw pretty well,” Litteral said.
Rock Hill broke a scoreless tie with five runs in the third inning.
Mark Anderson and Nick Howard singled and K.C. Christian beat out an infield hit to load the bases. T.J. Blagg was hit by a pitch to force in a run.
Mike Williams was hit by a pitch to send home Howard and Josh Moore singled to drive in Christian. Blagg came home on a passed ball and J.C. Murnahan hit a sacrifice fly to score Williams.
The Redmen duplicated the scoring output in the fourth inning to make it 10-0.
Anderson singled, Howard was safe on an error and Christian had another infield hit to load the bases. Blagg singled home two run and Nick Bryant had a run-scoring base hit.
After Bryant stole second base, Murnahan spanked a two-run double. Carl Blankenship drew a walk and Josh Guy capped the rally with an RBI single.
South Point got its two runs in the fifth.
After one out, Anthony Ross and Justin Smith walked and Chase McWhorter singled home a run. An error in the outfield on the hit allowed Smith to score.
The Redmen got a run in the bottom of the inning when Bryant singled, went to third base on a wild pickoff throw. Moore singled to make it 11-2.
Rock Hill, 13-4, plays at the Portsmouth Notre Dame tournament Saturday. The Redmen face Northwest at noon followed by the two losing teams and then the two winning teams.
