PROCTORVILLE — For Nick Zundell, change is good.

Zundell changed his pitches and changed his fortune as the Fairland Dragons beat the Gallipolis Blue Devils 7-3 Wednesday.

After giving up two runs in the first inning, Zundell settled down to allow three hits the rest of the game. He struck out seven and walked just two.

“He kept the ball down, threw strikes and changed speeds. He was a pitcher tonight,” Fairland coach Roger Snyder said. “He got off a rough start, but then he settled down.”

Gallipolis got two runs in the top of the first inning when Justin Saunders doubled, Austin King walked, Shaphen Robinson singled and Luke Haislop doubled.

Fairland answered with a run in the bottom of the inning. Zundell, Adam Berry and Adam Fuller all walked and Chris Barnett hit into a force play at home for an out, but the return throw to first base was wild and a run scored.

The Dragons erupted for four runs in the second inning.

Corey Blankenship singled, moved up on a ground out, Zundell and Berry walked to load the bases and Fuller’s sacrifice fly was dropped as a run scored leaving the bases loaded. Barnett walked to force in a run. Tyler Thackston singled in a run and a balk scored Fuller.

The Blue Devils got within 5-3 in the third inning. King walked, stole second and scored on Shawn Thompson’s double.

Fuller hit a solo home run in the fourth to make it 6-3

The Dragons added a run in the sixth inning. Fuller walked, Barnett had a sacrifice bunt, a passed ball sent Fuller to third base and he scored on a bunt single by Ethan Long.
