#8216;Wynonna Day#8217; proclaimed today in Ashland

ASHLAND, Ky. — The city of Ashland will recognize one of its most famous daughters with an entire day of activities in her honor.

Today has been proclaimed “Wynonna Day” in honor of country singer Wynonna Judd, who is performing at 8 p.m. tonight at the Paramount Arts Center.

Ashland Mayor Stephen Gilmore will formally honor her with citations from the Kentucky Senate and House of Representatives at her performance.

Judd will be welcomed to town with displays, signs and even children’s drawings of the country star that have been plastered throughout the town.

And, of course, there will be music.

The celebration in the singer’s honor will kick off with a block party at noon on Judd Plaza in downtown Ashland, live performances will follow with Eddie Riffe and Jessica Baldridge providing the entertainment.

At about 1 p.m., those who want to show off their own musical talents will be able to do so during a karaoke session. All participants will be entered in a drawing for two tickets to Judd’s concert tonight. The drawing will be at 1:45 p.m. on the plaza.

Music will continue with performances at the Highlands Museum and Discovery Center by Roger Smith at 2 p.m. and Sarah Wood at 3:15 p.m. At the Pendleton Arts Center,

Phillip “Clyde” Williams will perform at 2 p.m. and Lindsey Caudill will take the stage at 3:15 p.m.

To get Judd fans out of the heat, the Highlands Museum will be offering reduced admission fees, and visitors will also be entered in a drawing for two tickets to meet Judd. The museum will also have an art table for youngsters to make their own tributes to the local celebrity.

For those who are fans of motorcycles, not music, there will be a Harley-Davidson ride-in and show from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at 14th Street and Winchester Avenue.

Wiley Dew will have a pre-show performance in front of the Paramount at 7 p.m. Judd will take the stage soon after.

After Judd’s performance, the celebration will continue with “Party on the Plaza” at the Ashland Plaza Hotel. Beginning at 10:30 p.m., there will be performances by Riffe and Stephen Salyers. The free party at the hotel will last until 1 a.m.
