Symmes Creek group set to hit water

CHESAPEAKE — The Symmes Creek Restoration Committee will sponsor the Symmes Creek Annual Canoe Caper and Raffle beginning at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 12 at the Chesapeake Boat Ramp.
The group will be raffling off a sand-colored, 14-foot Mad River Canoe donated by the National Wild Turkey Federation — South Hills Longbeard chapter.
Tickets are $3 each or to for $5. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold. The group will also be giving away a framed photograph of Symmes Creek valued at $200.
After the raffle, the public is invited to paddle upstream to pick up litter and trash. The fleet will then float downstream for a lunch of hot dogs and chips provided by the Linville Grange. Participants will receive a free T-shirt.
