PROCTORVILLE — A Proctorville-area man was jailed Friday after he had a standoff with local authorities.
Louis Cremeans, 48, of 190 County Road 66, was charged with domestic violence. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jeff Lawless said the incident apparently stemmed from a dispute Cremeans had with his girlfriend over the care of a child.
“He became angry and got an AK-47 and fired a few rounds out the door. When the officers arrived, he kept them at bay, but he did not produce a weapon. He refused at first to come out of the house and there was a standoff,” Lawless said.
“There were negotiations and he did eventually come outside to talk with Deputy Julia Jones, but when she was not able to make headway officers approached him from behind,” he said.
Cremeans was taken to the Lawrence County Jail. The family members vacated the residence before the officers arrived. No one was injured in the incident, which began just after 8 a.m. and ended around 9:30 a.m.
