SYMMES TOWNSHIP —Area emergency services personnel spent Tuesday night combing a wooded area in Symmes Township before finding a lost man and woman in the area.

“A woman had been distraught for a couple of days, took some medication and went into the woods,” said Joe Justice, Aid Township Fire Chief. “A guy went in the woods to find her and they both got lost.”

Justice said his firefighters were joined by deputies from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and Upper Township Volunteer Fire Department, which brought a thermal imaging camera.

“We sent two people in on four-wheelers and after about 20 minutes made verbal contact but they could not see them. They worked their way around the hillside, and then discarded their four-wheelers and brought the people out of the woods on foot and then went back in to get the four-wheelers,” Justice said.

The woman was taken by South East Ohio Emergency Medical Services to a local hospital. The names of the lost couple were not available.

Justice said his agency received the call at approximately 9:30 p.m. and cleared the scene approximately one hour later.
