Dragons, Wentz win Portsmouth meet

PORTSMOUTH – The Fairland Dragons are off and running. And they’re running well.

The Dragons took first place in the 11-team Portsmouth Invitational cross country meet Saturday. Fairland had only 35 points to runner-up North Adams total of 64 points.

“All the kids did a nice job. There was some good competition and the kids really stepped it up,” Fairland coach Chuck Wentz said.

Leading the Dragons was senior Chuckie Wentz who took overall first place honors with a 17:35 clocking.

Other Fairland runners and times were: Wayne Moore 18:41, Dave Goodall 18:56, Logan Froelich 18:27, Aaron Ward 19:36, Steve Tweel 19:40, Eddie Adkins 20:20, Travis Jones 21:41, Matt Conzette 21:11, Dalton Froelich 21:46, Wie Lau 22:24.

Fairland girls were fourth as a team.

Runners for Fairland were: Megan Zanmiller 27:05, Beth Schlegel 28:16, Candace Shockley 29:26, Megan Williams 30:35, Erica Evans 30:46, Felicia Francis 32:18, Lauren Fulks 33:33, Lindsey Fowler 37:13.

Fairland runs in the Rio Grande Invitational next Saturday.
