Lady Vikings down Trimble to win sectional

WILLOW WOOD – Step one is complete. Now it’s on to step two.

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings were highstepping Thursday as they captured the Division IV sectional volleyball championship. The next step is a district semifinal match at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Wellston against Adena.

The Lady Vikings took that first step with a 3-1 sets win over the Trimble Lady Tomcats, 25-16, 22-25, 25-14 and 25-15.

Tiffany Bryant dominated the front line with 25 points and 23 kills. Emily Bowling also played strong along the net with 24 kills and Natasha Pointer scored 19 points.

Terri Woodgerd led Trimble with 17 points.

Symmes Valley is now 17-3 on the season. The Lady Vikings finished as runners-up in the Southern Ohio Conference race this season.

Team members are seniors Tiffany Bryant, Cassie Ingles and Natasha Pointer, juniors Sarah Ashworth, Emily Bowling and Kathryn Myers, sophomores Libby Ash, Nina Mullins, Halley Pelletiere, Rachel Thompson and Jennie Wilson, and freshmen Ashley Bryant, Caitie Bloomfield, Tiffany Copley, Erica Corn and Chelsea Wall.

Head coach is Becky Bowling and assistant coach is Mary Ferguson.
