GALLIPOLIS — Sarah Rucker had the biggest offensive scoring output of her career.

Holly Black managed just 6 points, but she, too, had a great game as well.

In fact, the Chesapeake Lady Panthers played well as a team in a 72-31 rout of the Ohio Valley Christian Lady Defenders Thursday.

Rucker scored a career-high 43 points and also had 13 rebounds and five blocked shots.

But coach John McClung was also impressed with Black.

“Holly Black played her best game. Her defensive pressure really got us going. She played like a senior and when she started to guard hard, everybody else picked it up,” McClung said.

After Chesapeake went up 16-5 after the first quarter, Rucker scored 14 points in the second quarter and the lead was 36-11 at the half.

Rucker poured in 18 points in the third quarter as Chesapeake outscored OVC 22-4 to build a 58-15 cushion.

McClung also praised Lexy Staton who had 10 assists along with 9 rebounds.

“After Lexy settled down, she got going and got a bunch of assists. She didn’t worry about scoring. When she got in foul trouble, (Rachel) Harris took over and did a nice job,” McClung said.

Chesapeake, 1-1, plays at River Valley next Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

In the reserve game, Chesapeake won 53-24 as Cassie Rucker scored 25 for the Lady Panthers and Allison Chapman 10 points.
