Hot-shooting sparks Lady Hornets win over Rebels

COAL GROVE — As country singer Jerry Reed once sang, “When you’re hot, you’re hot.”

Such was the case for the Coal Grove Lady Hornets Saturday as they shot 58 percent from the field en route to a 71-32 win over the South Gallia Lady Rebels.

Coal Grove made 32 of 55 field goal attempts including 4 of 11 from behind the arc.

“We shot the ball pretty well and we were able to run out break well,” Lady Hornets coach Nick Miller said. “We still have some things we need to work on.”

Leading the offense was Chelsea Markins with 19 points and Samantha Hall with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Jordyn Cox added 12 points for the Lady Hornets (7-3).

Hall had 8 points in the first quarter to give Coal Grove an 18-11 lead.

Markins erupted for 12 points including a pair of 3-pointers as Coal Grove doubled up the scoring and built a 38-21 halftime cushion.The Lady Hornets limited South Gallia to 4 points in the third quarter to go up 51-25.

Coal Grove plays at Rock Hill today with the reserve game starting at 5 p.m.
