LUCASVILLE — It was too much of one thing and not enough of another.

The Chesapeake Lady Panthers had too many turnovers and consequently not enough shots as they lost 62-37 to the Eastern Brown Lady Warriors in the Division III sectional finals Monday.

“We turned the ball over too much. All we needed was to make two passes and we might make one good pass but not the second,” Lady Panthers coach John McClung said.

“We only took 29 shots and they took 57. That’s not a good comparison.”

Chesapeake was 15 of 29 from the field and committed 22 turnovers. Eastern was 21 of 57 from the floor and had only 7 turnovers.

Ariana Boyles had 17 points and Candace Black 14 to lead a balanced Eastern offense that saw 12 different player score.

Senior Sarah Rucker, a 6-foot-3 center, led Chesapeake with 21 points in her final game. Senior Lexy Staton had 6 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

Chesapeake ends the season 10-12.

“We had a pretty good season. Nine of our losses were by one or two points. We were a competitive team,” McClung said. “Sarah was a weapon for us for four years. Lexy (Staton) helped us to be more competitive.”

A basket by Rucker to start the game and a layup by Paige Nelson had Chesapeake down just 6-4 with 6:17 left in the first quarter.

But Black had a 3-pointer and turned a steal into a layup that put the Lady Warriors up 17-6. The lead was 22-10 at the end of the quarter.

A 17-footer by Amanda Sentney put the Eastern lead at 12-36.

Chesapeake closed the half with a 3-pointer by Rachel Harris, a layup by Rucker and a putback by Staton and it was 36-19.

Boyles and Black combined for 11 points in the third quarter as Eastern pulled away to a 53-30 lead and coasted to the win.
