Patten#8217;s clutch shooting gives Green last-second win, 39-38

FRANKLIN FURNACE — Nathan Patten understands what it means to be a senior.

Pattern hit two clutch shots over the final 15 seconds to give the Green Bobcats a thrilling 39-38 win over the St. Joseph Flyers Saturday.

Patten hit a 3-pointer with 15 seconds left to put Green ahead at 38-37. St. Joseph’s Chad Harvey came down the floor, was fouled and made the first of two free throws to tie the game.

After a St. Joseph time out, Patten hit the first of two free throws to give Green the lead. The second shot missed and St. Joseph got the rebound but could not get off a final attempt.

“It was a dogfight. It was just back and forth,” Green coach David Hopper said. “I told (Patten) in the time out that I expected that from him because he’s a senior.”

Patten scored 11 points in the fourth quarter. Harvey had 7 of the Flyers 12 points.

The Bobcats took a 10-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and each team scored 10 points in the second quarter to make it 20-17 at the break.

The Flyers outscored Green 9-5 in the third quarter to go up 26-25.

St. Joseph had a 4-point lead in the fourth quarter that represented the biggest lead by either team.

Patten finished with 20 points to lead all scorers. Randy Ratcliff had 9 rebounds and Ian Kelley grabbed 6 for Green (4-6).

Harvey topped the Flyers (7-5) with 14 points. Michael Basedow and Jerrod Laber had 8 points each.
