It was only fitting that the seniors shined on Senior Night.

All five St. Joseph seniors — yes, even injured Cory Lewis — provided big contributions as the Flyers beat the East Tartans 56-47 Tuesday.

had 20 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 blocked shots in his final home game to lead the Flyers (11-9).

Ryan Staton scored 11 points to go with 6 rebounds, Clay Crum had 4 assists and 2 steals, Ryan Schwab 7 points including a big 3-pointer, and Lewis was cleared to play for the night and had two 3-pointers.

“It was a good win. The seniors had a great game. Clay played great defense, Ryan Schwab was steady as always, and there’s nothing you say about Ryan Staton that hasn’t been said. He plays hard every night,” Flyers coach Kevin Hacker said.

“It was nice to see Cory out there and get to play. He asked me the other day and once he was cleared he was ready to go. And Basedow just had one heck of a game.”

Sophomore Chad Harvey had 10 points as he played almost exclusively in the second half.

Lewis, who has been out with a knee injury, hit a 3-pointer to start the game. Basedow and Staton scored 6 each in the first quarter as the Flyers took a 17-14 lead.

The offense disappeared in the second quarter with Basedow getting 4 of the Flyers 6 points as East took a 24-23 halftime lead.

Nathan Williams got hot for East and scored 20 of the Tartans 23 points in the second half including 9 points in the third quarter on 3-pointers, but Basedow and and Schwab combined for 11 points as the Flyers rallied to take a 39-35 lead.

Harvey scored 8 points in the fourth quarter including 4 free throws to offset 11 points by Williams who hits three more trifectas.

“(Williams) was shooting from NBA range. He was just in a zone,” Hacker said.

Basedow, Staton and Lewis each added 3 points in the quarter for the Flyers.

St. Joseph plays Symmes Valley Monday at Wellston in the Division IV sectional tournament at 8 p.m.
