FRANKLIN FURANCE — It was like firing a few rounds from a machine gun.

The Beaver Eastern Eagles scored rapidly to begin the second half and used the scoring burst to beat the Green Bobcats 56-47 Tuesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

A.J. and Brian Osborne both had 8 points in the third quarter including a pair of 3-pointers each as Eastern outscored Green 23-11 to take a 42-33 lead.

“They came out hot and got the lead real quick and we just couldn’t recover from it,” Green coach Dave Hopper said. “But give our kids credit. They played hard the whole game.”

Nathan Patten had scored 8 points in the second quarter as Green erased an 11-7 first quarter deficit to take a 22-19 halftime lead.

Randy Ratcliff scored 8 more points in the fourth quarter to try and rally the Bobcats.

Eastern was just 10 of 20 from the foul line in the fourth quarter but made most of those shots over the final two minutes as Green was forced to foul to get back in the game.

“They just hit their free throws down the stretch. Give them credit,” Hopper said.

Patten led Green (5-8, 3-5) with 17 points while Ratcliff had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Ian Kelley pulled down 9 rebounds to go with 3 assists.

Brian Osborne scored 12 points, A.J. Osborne 11 points and Aaron Polen 10 to pace Eastern (7-7, 6-1).
