PORTSMOUTH — Now, where’s that can opener.
Someone must have put a lid on Symmes Valley’s basket as the Vikings shot just 26 percent in a 60-34 loss to the Portsmouth Clay Panthers Tuesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
Symmes Valley made just 13 of 50 field goal attempts and only 2 of 12 shots from behind the arc.
“It was one of those nights,” Vikings coach Alvin Carpenter said. “We struggled all night with our shooting. The harder we tried, the worse it got. We just have to get back to work and get ready for Monday’s game.”
Kirt Shipley had 7 points in the first quarter for the Vikings but Kent Robinson had 8 for Clay as the Panthers took a 14-10 lead.
Derek Webb got 8
more points as the Panthers doubled up the scoring in the second quarter to extend the lead to 30-18 at the half.
Symmes Valley managed just 16 points in the second half as Clay continued to pull away.
Shipley led the Vikings with 13 points. Kyle Meadows had 10 rebounds and Chris Capper 8.
The loss left the Vikings tied with Clay for third place at 10-4.
