PROCTORVILLE — Can somebody get the Fairland Lady Dragons a jump start?
Fairland managed only 4 points in the first quarter and couldn’t recover as they lost 62-50 to the Greenup County (Ky.) Lady Musketeers Thursday.
Greenup County (7-5) took a 12-4 lead at the end of the first quarter maintained its lead the rest of the way.
The Lady Musketeers outscored Fairland by one in the second quarter to take a 27-18 halftime lead.
Fairland got 8 points from Megan Auxier including a pair of trifectas in the third quarter but Greenup used 6 points by Megan Issac and 5 from Bridget Gibson to extend the lead to 44-31.
The Lady Dragons (4-7) refused to quit.
Shea Berry had 6 points and Destinee Spears 5 more as Fairland tried to rally in the fourth quarter.
But the Lady Musketeers converted 11 of 16 from the line — Gibson was 7 of 10 — to preserve the lead.
Auxier had 10 points to lead a balance Fairland offense. Spears scored 9, Berry 8 while Molly Bumgardner and Erika Smoot had 7 each.
Spears pulled down 12 rebounds and Bumgardner 11.
