It was 30-love for the Ironton Fighting Tigers tennis team.

Ironton swept all five matches in the season opener Monday against the Lawrence County (Ky.) Bulldogs.

No. 1 singles player LovellMedcalf defeated Nathan Martin 8-4, No. 2 Robbie Downs beat Tanner Queen 8-2 and No. 3 Joey Pauley blitzed Jacob Estep 8-1.

In doubles play, Ironton’s No. 1 team of Austin Cornett and Demetrius Givens blanked Queen and Estep 8-0 while No. 2 team Seth Christian and Matt Jones also won 8-0 over Chad Higgins and Brian Arbaugh.

Ironton was playing without J.C. Kinney due to an injury.

In the junior varsity matches, Lorenzo Akers fell to Higgins 8-2. Ironton’s doubles team of Cody Quillen and Gage Murphy stopped Jordan Estep and Scott Ellis 8-1.
