Green tops PND, 66-46

FRANKLIN FURANCE — The Green Bobcats did what coach Dave Hopper wanted, they just didn’t do it when he wanted.

Although the Bobcats didn’t do as Hopper said early in the game, they finally followed directions and came away with a 66-46 win over the Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans Tuesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“I told the kids (Notre Dame was) riding high and we would have to counteract that from the tip-off. We didn’t do that. But we did counteracted it in the second half,” Hopper said.

Notre Dame, which had won 3 of its last 4 games, hit seven 3-pointers in the first half and trailed by just one point.

But Green’s defense shut down the Titans with only 18 points in the second half

and Nathan Patten scored 16 of his 22 points to post the easy win.

“We made an adjustment in the second half and then Patten took over. He had a good game,” Hopper said.

Ian Kelly, Brock Russell and Patten scored 6 points each in the first quarter as Green went up 21-19.

The Titans outscored Green 9-8 in the second quarter and the lead was just 29-28 at the break.

Patten hit a pair of 3-pointers in the third quarter as Green pulled away to a 44-36 lead.

Patten scored 10 more points in the fourth quarter including a pair of treys as Green outscored the Titans 22-10.

Kelley finished with 13 points and Kelly scored 12.
