GALLIPOLIS — Maybe they’re not the Fab Five, but they were pretty good.
Five Chesapeake wrestlers placed at the Gallipolis Invitational round robin wrestling tournament Saturday to help the Panthers finish seventh in the 11-team field.
“Actually, we wrestled pretty well,” Chesapeake coach Phil Davis said.
“We had a couple of matches we should have won that we lost that would have moved us up a couple of places. We had some guys who went 2-1 in their pool but it wasn’t enough to get them out of their pool.”
Leading the Panthers was Thomas Lewis who went 5-0 on the day to take first place in the 125-pound division.
Chris Myers was second in the 103-pound class with a 4-1 record. Jarred Ellis was third as he went 3-2 in the 119-pound division.
In fourth place with 2-3 records were Mark Stallo at 152 pounds and Brad Wiley at 285 pounds.
The Panthers will now wrestle in the Nitro (W.Va.) Invitational next Friday and Saturday.
Here are the Gallipolis Invitational team standings:
