Auxier, Fairland rout N-Y

ROME TOWNSHIP — Mistakes are considered part of the game. Evidently, the Fairland Lady Dragons didn’t include them in their game plan.

The Lady Dragons did not commit an error and Megan Auxier pitched a one-hitter as Fairland beat the Nelsonville-York Lady Buckeyes 13-0 in five inning Monday in the Division III sectional tournament.

Auxier struck out 10 and did not walk a batter to get the win. She also went 3-3 with two doubles.

“We didn’t make any mistakes and Megan looked good, so it was a good game for us. It gave us a little confidence going into Friday’s game,” said Fairland coach Leroy Baise.

“We’ve got our work cut out for us Friday.”

Fairland (15-9) hosts Chesapeake at 5 p.m. Friday in the sectional finals.

Fairland jumped in front 3-0 in the first inning.

Megan Brooks singled, stole second and third bases, and scored on a throwing error.

Megan Auxier singled, Kirsten Midkiff put down a sacrifice bunt, and Jordan Fulks had an RBI single.

Fulks stole second base and came around to score on a pair of passed balls.

The Lady Dragons put the game out of reach with seven runs in the second inning to make it 10-0.

The final three runs scored in the third inning.
