Bats boom as SV girls beat Titans

SCIOTOVILLE — The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings must have thought their bats were bees with all the stinging they did.
The Lady Vikings stung the ball for 15 hits as they beat the Portsmouth Notre Dame Lady Titans 17-7 Thursday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
The Lady Vikings scored 14 runs over the final two innings to get the win.
“We hit the ball hard tonight. We really stung it all through the lineup,” said Lady Vikings coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.
“And we got good pitching from Erica. She did a good job in relief.”
Notre Dame built a 5-0 lead after two innings and each team scored a run in the fourth.
The Vikings scored their first run when Chelsea Wall singled with one out, Emily Bowling reached on an error, Kathryn Myers walked and Libby Ash hit into a fielder’s choice.
Symmes Valley got within 6-3 in the fifth inning.
With two outs, Latasha Hatfield singled, Kayla Justice walked and Chelsea Wall was safe on an error.
Bowling singled in one run and a throwing error allowed the second run to score.
The Lady Vikings scored seven runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Natasha Pointer had a three-run double to highlight the inning and the Lady Titans were guilty of four errors.
In the seventh, Wall doubled to drive in a pair of runs and Bowling added a two-run single .
Bowling and Pointer were 3-4, Wall 3-5 and Hatfield 2-5 to lead the Lady Vikings offense.
Corn got the win with 5.1 innings of work in relief. She struck out six and walked just one. She allowed just one earned run.
Symmes Valley (7-8, 6-3) hosts Notre Dame on Monday.
