The hard work on the court won’t decide the Southeastern Ohio League championship.

Money will.

Oh, there won’t be any payoff attempt, but in a set up that makes less sense than the amount of cents the coin is worth, the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers opponent for the SEOAL championship will be determined by the flip of a coin.

Marietta, Warren and Logan all finished North Division play with 10-3 records. Since they each split games against each other, the representative for the championship game at 8 p.m. Saturday in Jackson was determined by a coin flip by league officials on Friday morning.

Ironton (14-5, 11-2) won the South Division title. During the regular season, Ironton beat Marietta and Warren at home but lost 38-36 in ovetime at Logan.

The Day of Champions begins at noon with Portsmouth (2-16, 0-12) playing Athens (6-13, 3-10) followed by Gallipolis (6-13, 2-11) and Zanesville (6-12, 4-9) for seventh place.

At 4 p.m. Jackson (9-9, 5-8) plays either Logan (12-7), Marietta (14-5) or Warren (12-7) for fifth place. Chillicothe (13-5, 9-3) faces one of the trio at 6 p.m. for third place and then Ironton takes on the coin flip winner at 8 p.m. for the league championship.
