PROCTORVILLE – Eight was enough.

The Fairland Dragons got eight season-best performances as they won their own invitational track meet Friday.

“Our kids were competitors (Friday) night,” said Fairland coach Jon Buchanan. “We had eight different events where we set marks that are team bests for this year.”

Fairland had 158 points with South Point finishing second with 139. Chesapeake was fourth with 104 followed by Ironton with 68, Rock Hill 57, Coal Grove 51, Spring Valley 44 and South Gallia 19.

The Dragons effort sent a message that they will challenge South Point’s string of four straight Ohio Valley Conference championships.

“Coach (Randy) Smith at South Point is one of the best coaches in the area and his kids always bring it,” said Buchanan. “It was a good win for our guys and I’m very proud of them, but it’s still early. We’ve all got about a month before things really start to matter.”

The Dragons got first place finishes from Chuckie Wentz in 1600 meters (4:51.4) and the 3200 (10:35.5). Aaron Ward won the 110-meter hurdles (15.1) and was second in the 300 hurdles to South Point’s Josh Jones.

The Dragons Kyle Kincaid went 12-0 to win the pole vault and the 4×800 relay team of Eddie Adkins, Dave Goodall, Matt Bloomfield and Wentz ran a winning 8:57.5 time.

Chad Gibson won the 400 meters.

South Point’s Chris Smith won the shot put and discus. Teammate Quay Logan was first in the high jump.

Ironton’s Lukas Morris went 19-2.5 to win the long jump and was second in the high jump. Marc Carter easily won the 800 (2:00.1).

South Point edged Ironton in the girls meet by three points.

The Lady Pointers had a 110 total followed by Ironton with 107, Coal Grove 103.5, Spring Valley 99, Fairland 74, Rock Hill 62, Chesapeake 42.5, South Gallia 20 and Lincoln County 15.

Sarah Lee led the Lady Pointers as she won the long jump at 17-5 and was second in the high jump and 100-meter dash.

The Lady Pointers Tinesha Taylor won the shot put at 31-6.5 and the only other winner was the 4×200 relay team.

Ironton’s Mandi Boykin had a record-setting night.

Again.

Boykin ran a 12.3 to set a meet record in the 100-meter dash. She joined Rachel Walker, Michelle Pancake and Cinnamon Fletcher to win the 4×100 relay as the quartet set a meet record at 52.2 seconds.

Boykin also finished first in the 200 meters with a 26.2 time with Walker second at 27.6 seconds.

Walker also won the discus with a toss of

98-1 and was eighth in the shot put despite not competing in the event for nearly two years.

Pancake was third in the 100 meters and sixth in the long jump.

Fairland’s Aldridge took first place in the 100- and 300-meter dashes. She ran a 17.3 in the 100 and 55.6 in the 300.
