Lady Pointers score late to hand Lady Bobcats first loss

SOUTH POINT — John Wayne and Rock Hudson starred in the movie, “The Undefeated.”

The remake by the South Point Lady Pointers will be entitled, “The Formerly Undefeated.”

South Point scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to hand the Green Lady Bobcats their first loss of the season Tuesday, 5-4.

“We hit the ball and we did it against one of the best pitchers we’re going to see. Ali Thompson is good,” said Lady Pointers coach Steve Baise.

“We hit when we needed and we made plays when we needed. This is a big win for us.”

Green tied the game 4-4 in the top of the seventh inning.

With two outs, Ali Thompson reached on an error on a hard-hit ball. D. Skaggs blooped a base hit to put runners on the corners. Abbey Barrett singled to score Thompson.

But South Point answered in the bottom of the inning.

Ericka Leighty reached on a missed third strike and then stole second base.

Felesha Dickess singled and Courtney Koukos walked to load the bases. Tausha Collins then singled to right-center and Leighty came home with the winning run.

South Point had eight hits to back the pitching of Hannah Huron. Dickess was 3-4 and Collins 2-4. Huron fanned six and walked just one in going the distance.

Barrett was 2-4 for Green (11-1). Thompson struck out 10 and walked two in taking the loss.

South Point (4-6) visits Coal Grove Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
