Forget proper manners. Ironton’s doesn’t mind pitcher Sara Jones being stingy.

Jones racked up 14 strikeouts and gave up only two walks.

“She threw hard. I was very pleased with her performance,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields.

Ironton broke a scoreless tie with a pair of runs in the fourth inning, then broke loose with six runs in the fifth inning.

Jessica Brown started the inning with a base hit and Nikki Harbolt reached on an error. Lindsey Mooney singled to drive in Brown and Lilly singled to score two more runs.

Janie Morris capped the rally with a two-run triple.

Lilly went 3-4 and Mooney 2-3 as Ironton collected seven hits.

“We hit the ball, it just seems we hit it right at them,” said Fields. “Our hits finally came in the fifth inning. We need to attack the ball earlier in the game.”

Ironton (2-7, 2-2 SEOAL) plays at Wayne, W.Va., Tuesday.
