This wasn’t what they had planned.
Looking to finish the season strong and celebrate Senior Night in a positive manner, the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers were guilty of five errors as they lost 11-7 to the Jackson Iron Ladies Monday in a Southeastern Ohio Athletic League South Division game.
“We played sloppy tonight,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields. “We had been playing really good ball. Our errors really hurt us tonight as Jackson capitalized on four of the five (errors) to score runs.”
The game marked the final regular season home game for three seniors who are four-year starters: Nikki Harbolt, Kelsey Bronson and Lindsey Mooney.
“Nikki, Kelsey and Lindsey have been enjoyable to coach. I wish them the best in their college endeavors,” said Fields.
Ironton hosts Warren Tuesday in the SEOAL Day of Champions as the teams battle for third place.
The Lady Tigers travel to Symmes Valley Wednesday and host South Point next Monday in the Division III sectional tournament.
“I hope the girls got this type of play out of our system as tomorrow we play for third place. We have a good team and we can beat those teams if we omit the errors,” said Fields.
“Our hits are coming about mid-game. We need to attack the ball and get up on these teams quickly.”
Ironton (9-11, 9-3) outhit Jackson 11-to-9 led by Janie Morris going 2-3, Bronson 2-4 and Edi Taylor 2-5.
Taylor had two doubles and Morris one.
