New Boston takes advantage of mistakes to beat Symmes Valley

AID — These Vikings need to growl.

Symmes Valley coach John Patterson wants a different attitude from his team after a 5-2 loss to the New Boston Tigers in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“We need to be more aggressive at the plate. We’re too passive,” Patterson said.

Brice Sexton and J.J. Huff held New Boston to four hits, but the Vikings had just five.

New Boston scored single runs in the third and fifth innings before the Vikings got a run in the bottom of th fifth to get within 2-1.

Gage Patterson reached on an error, Robbie Powell singled and then two wild pitches scored the run.

New Boston took advantage an error, four walks and a hit batsman to score three times.

The Vikings rallied in the bottom of the inning when Ethan Wilson doubled and scored on two throwing errors.

But New Boston pitcher Matt Horner was able to get a comebacker, a slow roller to shortstop and a fly ball to end the game.

Powell was 2-4 for the Vikings (2-4, 2-1) who host Southern in a doubleheader Saturday.
