OAK HILL — What’s next? One for the thumb?

The South Point Pointers will be looking for a follow up next season after winning their fourth straight Division II district track championship Saturday.

The Pointers, who won just four events, had 119 points with runner-up Wheelersburg at 105.

Quay Logan, a sophomore, won the high jump and long jump, Aaron Craft captured the pole vault and the 4×200 relay team of Zach Norris, Josh Jones, Zach Woody, and Drew Lynd added the fourth first-place finish.

“We’re not a great and talented bunch. We only won a few events. There aren’t any super stars on this team,” said Pointers coach Randy Smith.

“We do have a great bunch of seniors and a good group of kids. When you have a good group and they work hard it shows you what’s possible.”

Gallipolis won the girls district championship with the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers finishing as runners-up for the fourth straight year.

Mandi Boykin, bidding for a fourth straight trip to the state meet, led Ironton again by winning the 100- and 200-meter dashes.

She also ran a leg on the 4×100 relay along with Rachel Walker, Michelle Pancake and Cinnamon Fletcher.

Walker was third in the 100 and fourth in the 200. She was sixth in the discus after missing her warm-ups in the finals since she had to stop and run the 4×100 relay.

“We did have a good day. You never seem to have a perfect day. Everybody did their best or nearly their best. I’m proud of our effort,” said Ironton coach Tim Thomas.

“Mandi did her thing, Rachel had a big day and Carie (Rister) had a big day.”

Regardless of team finish, the top four places in each event advance to the regional meet Thursday and Saturday at Byesville.

Ironton’s John Pemberton won the shot put as he threw 56-4.25 to break his own school record. He was also third in the discus.
