PEDRO — Pitching took control, and Rock Hill’s Josh Guy and David Turley were at the controls.

Guy struck out five and walked sixth in 6.1 innings of work while Turley got the final two outs for the save as the Redmen blanked the Waverly Tigers 2-0 Monday in the Division II sectional tournament.

“Josh threw a very good ball game. He kept them off-balance. Turley came in and shut the door pretty quick,” said Redmen coach Barry Litteral.

Rock Hill (11-5) will play at 5 p.m. Thursday at Vincent Warren in the sectional final. Warren blanked Athens 12-0 in five innings.

The Redmen got the only run they needed in the bottom of the first inning.

Corey Burke walked, Seth Kuehne singled, J.C. Murnahan had a bunt single to load the bases and Zach Zornes grounded out as the run scored.

The score remained 1-0 until the Redmen got an insurance run in the fifth inning.

Seth Kuhne got a leadoff base hit and came around to score when Murnahan’s base hit went through the outfielder’s legs for a two-base error.

“It was a good ball game. I would like to have seen more runs on our part, but we got the big hits when we needed it. We left way too many people on base tonight,” Litteral said.

Waverly had bases loaded with one out in the sixth only to hit into a pitcher-catcher-first base double play.

The Tigers loaded the bases with one out in the seventh on a double by John Teeters and two walks.

David Turley came on in relief and got a force out at home and a pop up to second base on a nice running catch by Seth Kuehne to end the game.

Guy was 2-2, Seth Kuehne and Murnahan 2-3, and Drew Kuehne 1-3 to account for all of Rock Hill’s hits.
