Redwomen capture D-3 sectional crown

PEDRO — The wins — and records — just keep coming.
The Rock Hill Redwomen already have their first-ever Ohio Valley Conference softball championship this season.
Friday the Redwomen added their first sectional title with a 13-0 win over the Federal Hocking Lady Lancers in the Division III tournament.
“This was a big win for us. This was one of our goals this season along with winning the league,” said Redwomen coach Mary Harper.
“The girls played great defense, we got good pitching, and we hit the ball well. It was a good team win.”
The win also kept Rock Hill unbeaten in 20 games. The Redwomen play Huntington Ross at 5 p.m. Thursday at the University of Rio Grande in the district semifinals.
Ross blanked Eastern Brown 4-0.
Rock Hill jumped on the Lancers for five runs in the first inning.
Katrina Settle singled, Jazel DeAutremont walked and Bobbi Harper doubled off the fence for a run. Shelli Harper walked to load the bases and Candice Chaffins hit a sacrifice fly.Brooke Skinner singled in a run and an error on the play put runners at second and third. Brooke Long walked and Kayla Kelley got an RBI single and then Kim Moore had a sacrifice fly.
The Redwomen came right back with three more runs in the second inning.
DeAutremont was hit by a pitch, Bobbi Harper singled, and a wild pitch put runners at second and third. Shelli Harper reached on an error as a run scored.
Skinner singled to load the bases, Long walked to force in a run, and Kelley hit another sacrifice fly.
Rock Hill put the game out of reach with five more runs in the third inning.
Settle singled, stole second and Shelli Harper had a run-scoring single. On the throw home, Harper scooted to second. Chaffins singled and when the ball rolled to the fence Harper scored.
Skinner had an RBI single, stole second, and Long singled. Kelley capped the rally with a two-run single.
Skinner was 3-3 and Kelley 2-2 as the Redwomen racked up 14 hits. Settle was 3-4 ad Bobbi Harper 2-4.
Bobbi Harper got the win as she gave up only two hits, struck out seven and did not walk a batter.
Harper has 154 strikeouts on the season and just 13 walks.
