SOUTH POINT – It took all the players and it took all the innings plus a few more.

The Rock Hill Redwomen moved a step closer to winning the Ohio Valley Conference softball title with a 4-2 win over the South Point Lady Pointers 4-2 in nine innings Friday.

“It was good team play. It took all of them,” said Redwomen coach Mary Harper.

Bobbi Harper was part of the team effort with a two-run double that drove in the winning runs. Besides going 4-for-5 at the plate, she also picked up the win as she struck out 12 and walked only one.

Rock Hill got a run in the first inning when Katrina Settle doubled, moved up on a ground out and scored on a hit by Bobbi Harper.

The Redwomen made it 2-0 in the second inning.

Brooke Long singled and Brooke Skinner and Kim Moore walked to load the bases. Kristyn Phillips then walked to force home a run.

South Point got within 2-1 in the fifth inning.

Ashley Kleinman singled, stole second and third bases and came home when Chelsi Plants reached on an error.

The Lady Pointers tied the game in the sixth. Ericka Leighty singled and moved up when Felesha Dickess grounded out. Tausha Collins delivered a two-out single to drive in Leighty.

“We hit the ball well and it was a good game. We just walked a run in and that ended up being the difference,” said Lady Pointers coach Steve Baise.

The game remained tied until the ninth when Phillips and Jazel DeAutremont singled to start the inning and Bobbi Harper doubled off the fence.

Rock Hill, now 11-0 and 7-0 in the OVC, hosts River Valley Monday.

“We’re in the driver’s seat, but we just have to stay focused and they will,” coach Harper said.
