ROME TOWNSHIP – Less is better.

Hits were at a premium, but so were errors as the Rock Hill Redwomen beat the Fairland Lady Dragons 1-0 in an Ohio Valley Conference game Wednesday.

“We didn’t have a lot of hits, but we played good defense,” said Redwomen coach Mary Harper.

Rock Hill had just four hits and Fairland only five.

Bobbi Harper struck out nine and did not walk a batter to get the win. Megan Auxier had five Ks and no walks in a losing effort.

The only run scored in the sixth inning.

Jazel DeAutremont got a one-out double and Bobbi Harper was safe on a fielder’s choice when Fairland tried to throw behind DeAutremont at second. DeAutremont broke for third base and beat the relay throw with Harper going to second base.

Shelli Harper followed with a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score DeAutremont.

“You don’t like to lose, but it was a great game. Both teams played fantastic. Both teams realized the OVC was on the line,” said Fairland coach Leroy Baise.

Rock Hill, 10-0 and leading the OVC at 6-0, travels to Raceland, Ky., Thursday and South Point Friday.

Fairland, 8-6 and 2-2 in the OVC, hosts Chesapeake Friday.
