Rocky Top to open Friday

COAL GROVE – After a long offseason, the Rocky Top Raceway is set to open the gates on the fourth season of racing as “the most exciting, action packed show in town” Friday.
The annual Opening Night races card will be a full program of Late Models with $1,200 to win, Modifieds with $650 to win, Bombers with $350 to win, and the first of six races for the new Mod Lite class paying $200 to win.
In addition to the very exciting racing, a champions presentation for last years track champions will take place on the front stretch prior to Hot Laps.
The April 20th races will be the first of 22 scheduled events as RTR is scheduled to race every Friday night through Sept. 14.
In addition to a very exciting weekly racing program, special event races that will highlight the season include the “Twin 30’s” featuring a $2,000 to win Late Model and $1,000 to win Modified show on May 18, the “Summer Sizzler 40” paying $3,000 to win Late Models on June 15, the “Engines Inc./Carl Grover Motorsports 50” sanctioned by the Independent Racing Series paying $5,000 to win Late Models on July 13, and the “Season Championships” on Sept. 14.
General Admission for the Opening Night races is only $12 with Pit Admission $25. The night’s action is scheduled to get underway with Hot Laps following the champions presentation around 7:30 p.m.
