Similar effort gives St. Joseph 8th win

GLENHAYES, W.Va. — The St. Joseph Flyers did things right again, and they got another win.
Another solid effort helped the Flyers to a 10-4 in over the Tolsia Rebels as they improved to 8-1.
“It was another good game by the defense and we hit well again,” Flyers coach Greg Bryant said. “Caleb (Blackburn) threw a pretty good game.”
Blackburn got the win with six strikeouts and two walks.
The Flyers got a run in the first inning when Ryan Schwab singled, stole second base, took third on a wild pitch and Blackburn singled.
After Tolsia tied the game in the bottom of the first, the Flyers took the lead for good with a run in the second.
Chad Harvey singled, stole second and third, and scored when Tre Stambaugh grounded out.
The lead went to 4-1 in the third.
Blackburn and Laber singled to put runners on the corner. Laber stole second, Ryan Waginger grounded out for a run and Harvey singled home Laber.
Three runs scored in the fourth.
Pat Gagai and Schwab walked, and after a wild pitch, Michael Basedow beat out a bunt single and a throwing error on the play scored both runners. Basedow went to third base and scored on a sacrifice fly by Cory Lewis.
The Flyers final three runs scored in the sixth inning when Blackburn singled, Waginger walked and Harvey drilled a three-run homer.
Blackburn went five innings for the win. He struck out six and walked two.
St. Joseph visits Portsmouth East Thursday.
