Symmes Valley holds on to get 6-5 victory over Lady Tigers
Bend but don’t break.
The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings held off the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers for a 6-5 win Tuesday.
“We both have a lot of young players, so this was a good game for both of us,” said Lady Vikings coach Jeff “Odie” Estep. “We got some clutch hits and didn’t fold under pressure.”
Each team got a run in the first inning.
Julie Carter walked with one out, Chelsea Wall singled and Kathryn Myers had a base hit with Carter scoring on an overthrow back to the infield for the Vikings.
Ironton came back in the bottom of the inning when Edi Taylor singled, moved up on a wild pitch and came home on a hit by Nikki Harbolt.
In the third inning, Ironton scored twice to lead 3-1.
Taylor walked and Lindsey Mooney and Kelsey Bronson singled for a run. An overthrow to third base scored Mooney.
Symmes Valley got within 3-2 in the fourth inning.
Myers singled, Libby Ash walked, Tasha Pointer hit into a fielder’s choice and Hailey Pelletier had an RBI single.
The Lady Vikings took the lead with three runs in the sixth.

and Courtney Nelson singled to load the bases. Kayla Justice singled for a run, Wall had a sacrifice fly and another overthrow to the infield scored Justice.
Myers and Pointer doubled for a run in the top of the seventh to put the Lady Vikings up 6-3.
But Ironton mounted a comeback in the bottom of the inning.
Jessica Brown walked and Taylor and Mooney singled for a run. A wild pitch scored Taylor.
But Ash got the next batter on a ground ball back to the mound to end the game.
Symmes Valley (5-8) visits East Wednesday.
