A West Virginia couple arrested on drug charges and a Columbus man arrested on similar charges were among those arraigned last week in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.

Paul Williams, 29, of Columbus, was arraigned on one count of complicity to trafficking in crack cocaine within the vicinity of a juvenile. He pleaded not guilty through his attorney, Warren Morford. Lawrence County Prosecutor J.B. Collier Jr., asked

Judge Richard Walton to set a substantial bond, given Williams’ past and his out-of-town residency.

“He has quite a lengthy criminal history and has been in prison before,” Collier said. “This is the result of an investigation by the Lawrence County Drug Task Force. He is not from this area; he is from Columbus.”

But Morford countered that Williams’ deserved “a more reasonable bond” given his circumstances.

“There are no allegations he has ever failed to appear for a court appearance. He is a man with four small children ages 11 years of age to 3 years of age. He doesn’t prove a flight risk,” Morford said.

Walton set bond at $125,000 and scheduled a pretrial conference for next week.

Also Wednesday, Cory J. Baughman, 26, of Huntington, W.Va., was arraigned on one count each of aggravated trafficking in drugs and aggravated possession of drugs. He pleaded not guilty through his attorney, Chris Delawder. Judge Charles Cooper allowed a $35,000 bond posted in Lawrence County Municipal Court to continue. Cory Baughman must return to court Aug. 1 for a pretrial conference. His wife, Maria Baughman, was also arraigned on one count each of complicity to aggravated trafficking in drugs and complicity to aggravated possession of drugs. Walton set her bond at $35,000.

In another matter, Frederick Schob, 27, of South Webster, was arraigned on one count of theft from the elderly. He pleaded not guilty through his attorney, Jeremy Morris. Cooper set a $25,000 own recognizance bond and ordered Schob to return to court next week for a pretrial conference.

Ashley Dickson, 22, of 162 Township Road 1043, Chesapeake, was arraigned on two counts of perjury. She pleaded not guilty through her attorney, Paul Knipp. Cooper set bond at $25,000 cash, surety or real estate and ordered her to return to court next week for a pretrial conference.
