Proctorville man dies in crash

Two accidents occurred on Thursday, a fatal car crash in Proctorville and a train hit a car in South Point.

A two-car crash Thursday afternoon in Proctorville caused the death of an 80-year-old man.

According to the Ironton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Granville H. Spurlock, 80, of Proctorville, was driving a beige 2005 Ford Taurus when he failed to yield at a stop sign at the intersection of Ohio 7 and County Road 403.

Raymond A. Folden Jr. was driving a red 2000 F-250 Super Cab northbound when Spurlock’s car went through the stop sign and Folden’s truck hit the car broadside.

Spurlock was transported by South East Ohio Emergency Medical Services squad to St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, W.Va., where he died from his injuries.

Folden and a passenger in his truck were not injured. Both drivers and the passenger in Folden’s truck were wearing safety belts.

The accident remains under investigation.

According to Lawrence County dispatchers, a call came in Thursday evening at 10:37 p.m. that a train hit a car in South Point.

No other information was available at press time.
