Kerns fires 31 to lead Ironton golfers to win

BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. — Home or away, the course doesn’t seem to matter right now to Nathan Kerns.

After a record-setting round at home last week, Kerns blistered the Esquire Country Club

Thursday with a 5-under par 31 to lead the Ironton Fighting Tigers to a win over the Chesapeake Panthers.

Kerns shot a 31 as he hit all nine fairways while registering five birdies and four pars.

Andy Holtzapfel had an even par 36 for Ironton while Aaron Christian shot a 43, Josh Cooke a 44, Mason Weisgarber 48, and Josh Mullins 49.

Bryon Huff and and Nic Allen shared top honors for the Panthers identical rounds of 40. Kyle Rase fired a 41.

Ironton (32-24) plays at South Webster on Monday, at Ashland, Ky., on Tuesday, and hosts Chesapeake, Portsmouth Clay, and Elliott County, Ky., on Wednesday.
