A South Point man indicted for aggravated vehicular manslaughter in connection with a fatal traffic accident was arraigned Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.

Matthew Cecil, 40, of 132 Township Road 1504, pleaded not guilty

to both the manslaughter charge and a drunken driving charge through his attorney, William Kennedy.

“These charges are extremely serious,” Lawrence County Prosecutor J.B. Collier Jr., said, noting that at the time of the accident, Cecil’s blood alcohol content was .282— nearly three times the legal limit.

Judge Charles Cooper set a $50,000 own recognizance (OR) bond and ordered Cecil to return to court in two weeks for a pretrial conference.

Cecil was one of a couple dozen people arraigned Wednesday in common pleas court. Raymond Wilson, 47, of 258 Private Drive 4649 Ironton, was arraigned on one count of domestic violence. He pleaded not guilty through his attorney, Derick Fisher. Cooper set bond a $50,000 property bond and scheduled a Sept. 26 pretrial conference.

Also, Jeffrey Rowe, 50, who address is listed as the Lawrence County Jail, was arraigned on one count each of burglary, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest. He pleaded not guilty through his attorney, David Reid Dillon. Cooper agreed to continue a $60,000 bond set in Ironton Municipal Court and scheduled a pretrial conference for Wednesday.

In another case, Joseph Wilson, 20, of 302 Washington St. Coal Grove, was arraigned on two counts of trafficking in marijuana. He pleaded not guilty through Fisher, who is also his attorney. Cooper allowed Wilson to post a $25,000 OR bond and ordered him to return to court next week for a pretrial conference.

Also, Michael Nelson, 46, of County Road 14, Pedro, was arraigned on one count of possession of powder cocaine. He pleaded not guilty through his attorney, Paul Knipp. Cooper set a $10,000 cash bond and scheduled a pretrial conference for Wednesday.

Two people accused of acting together in a burglary were also arraigned. Shirley Berry, 49, of 415 Township Road 104, Chesapeake, was arraigned on one count of complicity to burglary. Her attorney, Warren Morford, entered both a plea of not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity for his client. Cooper set a $50,000 cash or surety bond. Her accomplice, Aaron Porter, 31, of Huntington, W.Va., was arraigned on one count of burglary. He entered a plea of not guilty through his attorney, Philip Heald. Cooper set the same bond for him and ordered them both to return to court next week for a pretrial conference.

Charles Holley, 20, of 75 Township Road 1039, Chesapeake, was arraigned on one count of escape. He pleaded not guilty through his attorney, Michael Gleichauf. He will return to court next week for a pretrial conference.
