WELCH, W.Va. — Talk about your jet lag.

Mount View tailback Cordero High ran 28 times for 178 yards and scored twice. The Golden Knights ran 32 times for 214 rushing yards.

“We had to re-program to get ready for them. Wheelersburg, Waverly and Greenup County all wanted to throw the ball around,” said Pointers coach Doug Shilot.

South Point (1-4) had two turnovers to four by the Knights, but Shilot noted their mistakes were costly.

“The kids played really well at times, we just shot ourselves in the football too many times, and their tailback was pretty good,” said Shilot.

South Point racked up 200 yards offense in the first half, but struggled to gain less than 50 yards in the second half.

The Pointers took a 14-0 lead to start the game on a pair of short touchdown runs by Tyler Smith.

Cordero ran 1-yard for the Golden Knights first touchdown and added the conversion run.

Jacob Seagraves had a 5-yard touchdown run to extend the Pointers lead to 20-8, but High went 15 yards and added the conversion it was 20-16 at the break.

South Point missed out on a golden scoring opportunity as it fumbled the ball away at the Mount View 12-yard line.

“We’re going through some growing pains,” said Shilot.

Mount View (2-1) got the winning score on a 3-yard run by Cederick Thomas with 10:45 to play.

Beau Weed had two interceptions.
