PROCTORVILLE — Sometimes it’s hard to get the engine going on a cold night. But once it gets warmed up, it runs on all cylinders.

That’s how the Fairland offense worked Friday night as the Dragons

routed the River Valley Raiders 35-13 in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We started off out of sync. The second quarter we turned it on and mixed it up pretty well. In the third and fourth quarter, we just lost our intensity and we turned the ball over a couple of times,” said Fairland coach Brent Wilcoxon.

Part of the Dragons’ problems early were nagging penalties the ruined the timing and continuity as River Valley took a 7-0 lead on a 1-yard run by quarterback Clayton Curnutte.

The Dragons also had three fumbles and lost them all.

Fairland (4-4, 2-1) came back to tie the game on a 49-yard jaunt by Matt Bloomfield and Nate Burcham’s conversion kick.

But then came the second quarter and Fairland outscored the Raiders 21-0 to surge ahead for good.

Cole Hatfield hit Michael Lamb with a 48-yard touchdown pass and later hooked up with Jordan Kersey on a 25-yard screen pass for a touchdown.

Hatfield capped off the first half scoring with a 1-yard run and it was 28-7 at the break.

The Raiders got a 2-yard run by fullback Tyler Canaday to get within 28-13, but Kersey iced the win with a 12-yard scoring run lead in the fourth quarter.For the game, Hatfield was 14-of-19 for 190 yards and two touchdowns. Bloomfield had 147 yards on only seven carries and also caught two passes for 43 yards.

Lamb had two receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown.

Hatfield also blocked a field goal in the second quarter and he and Kersey came up with interceptions.

Fairland finished with 447 total yards. River Valley had 279 with 205 coming on the ground.
